Juraj has over 25 years of legal, policy and compliance experience. He started his career with the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, followed by almost seventeen years in the legal department at the EBRD, between 1993 and 2010, most recently as Chief Counsel responsible for legal work in Russia. After leaving the EBRD, he worked for several years as General Counsel for a large private power developer, where he was also responsible for developing integrity and corporate governance standards including company policies on anti-bribery and anti-corruption. He re-joined the EBRD in late 2013 as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer responsible for ethics and policy. In this role he revamped several integrity-related Bank policies and procedures and provided guidance to the Board, management and staff, including under the Board and Staff Codes of Conduct. His most recent assignment at the EBRD involved the establishment and placing into operation of the Business Ombudsman institution in Ukraine. For this purpose he moved to Kiev from where he develops and implements projects designed to improve investment climate and governance in Eastern Europe. Juraj will moderate the panel discussion entitled “Bringing Businesses and Government together to fight corruption: The Business Ombudsman.”
