Global Witness
Senior Campaigner
London
I am a Senior Campaigner at Global Witness with a focus on the role banks play in facilitating corruption. This has involved highlighted how many banks are breaking the rules by failing to spot and report corrupt officials who are laundering their ill-gotten gains through them. My work includes advocating for better enforcement of anti-money laundering regulations, and shutting down loopholes in them. It has included successfully campaigned for the UK to introduce a new measure requiring a named senior executive to be held personally accountable for their bank upholding the relevant anti-money laundering obligations.

For more detail on the issue I work on, see the briefing: https://www.globalwitness.org/reports/banks-and-dirty-money

Before Global Witness I spent 15 years in the International Development sector. I started my career with Oxfam, where for 12 years had a number of roles seeking to change governments’ policies on a range of issues including better regulation of the arms trade, increasing aid, improving basic social services, tackling climate change, and ending conflicts.

I also worked for the anti-poverty advocacy organisation ONE. This included working on successful campaigns to introduce legislation requiring oil, gas and mining companies to publish what they pay governments, and to ensure a global vaccination program, to save the lives of four million children over five years, was agreed and fully funded.
