Phil Matsheza

UNDP Regional Cluster Leader, Governance and Peace Building

Phil Matsheza is the Regional Cluster Leader for Governance and Peacebuilding in UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, based in Bangkok, Thailand.  He was previously the Governance Practice Team Leader at the Bangkok Regional Hub, and formerly the Global Policy Advisor on Anti-Corruption responsible for the implementation of the UNDP Global Thematic Programme on Anti-Corruption for Development Effectiveness. Mr. Matsheza brings over 30 years of experience that includes diplomatic service, Civil Society and UN. Prior to joining UNDP, Mr. Matsheza worked for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as an anti-corruption expert on the Global Programme against Corruption and provided technical assistance to Member States, field offices and other UN agencies. Mr. Matsheza was a diplomat in Ethiopia, Germany and Brussels between 1981 and 1989, and served as Deputy Director of Information and later as Under Secretary for Policy and Legislation in the Ministry of Home Affairs of Zimbabwe. Mr. Matsheza holds an LLB Honors degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master of International Law in Human Rights from the University of Lund, Sweden.
