Ana Gomes is a Member of the European Parliament, since 2004. Her main interests are the build up of a united Europe and the promotion of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the EU and in the world. In the European Parliament, she tries to mainstream these concerns by being active in the fields of public liberties, security and defence, international relations and development. In this mandate (2014-2019), she is full member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and of the Subcommittee for Security and Defence, amongst others, as well as substitute member on the Subcommittee on Human Rights.
